Patrol   The City of Signal Hill is approximately 2.2 square miles but has over 40 miles of paved roadway.  Being geographically located in the middle of the Long Beach area makes the roadway in Signal Hill an alternate route for the San Diego Freeway.  Thousands of vehicles pass through the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Willow Street every day.  Most of the this traffic is considered commuter traffic.

The Signal Hill Police Department Traffic Bureau is staffed by a sergeant and two traffic officer/investigators.  All of the reported traffic collisions that occur within the city limits are investigated.  These collisions include injury, non-injury, hit & run, and counter reports.  Officers are not obligated to take a non-injury collision report which occurs on private property, but they can assist the involved parties in exchanging driver's license and vehicle insurance information.  The Traffic Bureau is also responsible for the administration on grants received from the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), commercial enforcement, DUI checkpoints, and special projects.

If you are involved in a collision in Signal Hill, it is best to remain at the scene and have the officers respond to the location.  The investigation will usually only take a short time and will save you an enormous amount of time later.

The officers of the Traffic Bureau and the city traffic engineers meet on a bimonthly basis to identify problem traffic areas in the city.  These problems can include signal phasing, street markings, sign placement, and pedestrian concerns.

Any traffic concern can be addressed by calling the Signal Hill Police Department at (562) 989-7201 or by calling Sergeant Robert Cravens at (562) 989-7222 x 46.
